Information for businesses in Leicester
Want to keep the doctor away?
There’s no arguing about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. It’s a fact that people who drink moderately, eat healthily, exercise regularly and don’t smoke are much less likely to be absent from work than their colleagues who don’t take such good care of themselves.
If you run a business, you’ll know how important it is to have a fit and healthy workforce. Perhaps you already have a range of measures in place to encourage your staff to adopt a healthier lifestyle – such as low-fat snacks in the canteen, or subsidised gym membership.

Healthy Leicester is a new city-wide initiative that’s inviting organisations like yours to show your support for a healthier Leicester.
Healthy Leicester – which is a partnership between Leicester City Council and the city’s primary care trust – aims to give people the information they need to change the behaviour that’s having an adverse affect on their health.
Focusing on five key areas of public health – smoking, obesity, sexual health, alcohol and drugs – Healthy Leicester will highlight the work being done by partners around the city, providing a one-stop source of practical information.
This website – which will evolve as the campaign develops – will be the gateway to advice on stopping smoking, losing weight or cutting down on drinking.
And at regular intervals throughout the year, there will be promotional activity around one of the five key themes, including a major campaign in the new year to tackle obesity.
If your business would like to sign up to a healthier Leicester, click here to pledge your support to the
campaign.
You’ll also find space to add details of any successful health initiatives that you’ve run – and that we could use to inspire other organisations in the city.
In return, we’ll email you the Healthy Leicester logo, which you can use to ‘endorse’ any lifestyle events you might organise, or that you might like to add to your letterhead.
We will also be able to send you leaflets and other information that could help your employees adopt a healthier lifestyle.
A campaign to encourage people to ban smoking from their homes is already under way – and in October, an initiative will be launched that will make sporting activities free to city residents who are over 60.
In November, Healthy Leicester will team up with the Leicester Comedy Festival at an event called ‘Doctor, doctor’, while sexual health is the focus for December.
During January, Healthy Leicester will be tackling obesity and encouraging the city to get exercising – while campaigns on drug and alcohol misuse are proposed for later on in 2007.
